Obituary for Lois Mary Gilbert-Cober (McKeown)

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Lois Gilbert-Cober, in her 97th year, at Campbell House Hospice with family by her side.
Lois was predeceased by her husbands Garnet (Joe) Gilbert and Harold Cober, son Edward Gilbert, parents Anson and Violet McKeown, siblings Harold and Glenn McKeown, sister Peggy Pascoe, brothers-in-law Morris Topping, Morley (Hez) Pascoe, sisters-in-law Margaret, Mary and Elizabeth McKeown.
Mourning her loss is her sister Phyllis Topping, sons Murray (Debbie) Gilbert, Mikel (Kim) Gilbert; grandchildren Gerratt (Sarah), Jordan (Kayla), Elise, Samantha (Jaime) and Aaron; great grandchildren Max, Sunday, Mya and Taiya and her many nieces and nephews; her step children and their families: Dean (Sue) Cober, Connie (John) Livingstone, Nancy Cober (Tim Hood); Jeff (Isabelle), Michelle, Diane Summerville (Marie), Erika, Eren, Lucas, Zachery, Stella, William, Mackenzie, Sam, Anneka and Jacob.
Lois was a remarkable woman who cherished her family, friends and touched the hearts of everyone she met. She enjoyed a full and wonderful life with a positive outlook and great sense of humor.
Early in their marriage Joe and Lois built and managed a motel in Napanee, later in life purchasing and managing another in Bracebridge with Phyllis and Morris. Joe secured a job with Trans Canada Pipeline which involved many relocations; Ramore, Australia, Calgary to name a few.
Settling and retiring in Collingwood in 1985 Lois became involved in the community. She was an active member with the UCW, Christian Women’s Group, Heritage Church Group, Historical Society and volunteered with Hospice Georgian Triangle and CGMH.
A cheerleader for her grandchildren, she often attended sporting events (cow bell in hand), dance recitals, school concerts and graduations. Her creative talents included knitting, crocheting, needle point and sharing a good joke. She generously gifted her pieces of art to family and community.
Lois would jokingly say “I’m not going to live forever, you know”. But she will; in the hearts and memories of everyone she knew.
We will miss you always and forever. Rest in peace now.
Lois’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. J. Clarke, the nursing staff at CGMH as well as the compassionate and caring staff at Campbell House.
